Our Focus: Practical Implementation

Real Patient – Real Diagnostics

The core idea of this seminar is to help you immediately apply the knowledge you gain and to demonstrate how to implement the fundamental principles of the concept in a real patient case.
To get the most out of the seminar, it is highly recommended that each dentist works with an actual patient for diagnosis or treatment. Some of the necessary diagnostic data may be collected during the seminar sessions; however, certain limitations may apply.
Thanks to our cooperation with the Occlusal Diagnostics Center CityDental in Riga, participants have the opportunity to visit the clinic together with their patient and obtain comprehensive diagnostic data under the guidance of Dr. Jelena Mezdreija. More about this opportunity – click here.

Case Analysis of All Participants

Over the course of the four seminar modules, participants will not only gain new theoretical knowledge but also apply it directly by working on their patient’s case. This includes preparing progress presentations, explaining clinical decisions made, and sharing outcomes.
A vital part of the seminar is the group analysis of all presented patient cases, as well as close collaboration between the dentist and dental technician in the practical work that takes place between seminar modules.
The good news – you will receive hands-on support and expert supervision throughout the process.
The less exciting news – homework is required!

Dentist and Technician – One Team

You must be in the same boat!
Throughout the seminar (June to December), the dentist and technician will work together on the same patient – from diagnostics to final restorations.
Ideally, we encourage teams of two – a dentist and a dental technician – to register together.
If you don’t have a technician or dentist partner yet, let us know. You may not be the only one, and we’ll do our best to help match interested participants into working pairs.

Fully Adjustable Articulators

One of the key outcomes of diagnostics is the ability to base your treatment and further analysis on the patient’s individual anatomical data and digitally recorded mandibular movements.
To fully benefit from the seminar, dental technicians will need access to a physical, fully adjustable articulator such as Gamma, Girrbach, or SAM, to complete the assigned tasks. If you have one, please plan to bring it to the in-person modules.
Note: It is possible to use a non-adjustable Girrbach articulator, but this will limit the accuracy and the full potential of your diagnostic and treatment results.

Acquiring the data for diagnosis

in collaboration with the Occlusal Diagnostics Center CityDental in Riga
and Dr. Jelena Mezdreija

In collaboration with the Occlusal Diagnostics Center CityDental and Dr. Jelena Mezdreija, course participants (in working pair both dentist and technician) will receive full support in acquiring all necessary diagnostic data to develop patient presentation case, This includes condylography, 3D CBCT, cephalometric x-ray (CEF), intraoral scanning, both analogue and virtual model mounting, as well as other tools and resources required to immediately and effectively implement the knowledge gained during the course into presentation case.

This additional option is available for participants to receive hands-on support from Dr. Jelena Mezdreija by bringing their own patient case. This opportunity allows participants to acquire the necesary diagnostic data together with Dr. Mezdreija in a real clinical environment, where these functional dentistry principles are applied daily.

Dr. Jelena Mezdreija is a general dentist with over 20 years of clinical experience. Over the past 15 years, she has been the owner of a private dental clinic, which she has tailored to support her professional focus on prosthodontics and, in the last five years, a deep dive into functional dentistry and the Slavicek concept. She has implemented functional dentistry principles in her daily clinical workflows and has performed over 250 condylography recordings to diagnose and treat patients with dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system.

One-on-one sessions with Dr. Mezdreija will significantly enhance your practical understanding of functional dentistry and prepare you to integrate its principles into your everyday clinical workflow, along with recognizing the challenges and opportunities involved in this transition.

Please note: This opportunity is not included in the standard seminare program. Participants who are interested in visiting Dr. Mezdreija’s clinic and organizing diagnostic sessions for their own patient cases must inform us separately after registering for the course. These appointments will be arranged on an individual basis, subject to availability and mutual agreement.
